CENER’s BIO2C Receives BioCircular Innovation Award at BioCircular Summit 2026
We are proud to share an important milestone for CENER. Our Biorefinery and Bioenergy Center (BIO2C) has been honored with the BioCircular Innovation Award at the BioCircular Summit 2026, a recognition that reinforces our long-standing commitment to advancing sustainable, circular solutions for the energy and industrial sectors.
This January 2026, the BioCircular Summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders, technology developers, and research organizations to address the key challenges and opportunities of biocircularity. The event focuses on accelerating the transition toward a sustainable and competitive bio-based economy, with discussions on policy and regulation, technological innovation, market development, renewable fuels, bioenergy, bioproducts, and resource efficiency across the entire value chain.
As part of the Summit, the BioCircular Awards recognize outstanding initiatives that drive the development and implementation of biocircular solutions. These awards highlight projects and organizations that are making a tangible contribution to sustainability, innovation, industrial competitiveness, and the efficient use of biological resources. The categories typically acknowledge excellence in areas such as technological innovation, industrial deployment, collaborative initiatives, and leadership in advancing the circular bioeconomy.
The BioCircular Innovation Award, received by BIO2C, specifically recognizes organizations that have developed outstanding biocircular solutions, driving technological or process advances that contribute to sustainability.
In this context, the BioCircular Innovation Award granted to BIO2C recognizes more than two decades of dedicated work by the BIO2C team in developing innovative technologies and processes that transform biomass, biowaste and residual biomasses into advanced solid, liquid and gaseous biofuels as well as into valuable biobased products. Through biocircular approach, BIO2C contributes to reducing waste, optimizing resource use, and supporting the transition toward a more efficient, competitive, and environmentally responsible economic model.
At CENER, we believe that innovation must translate into tangible impact. The recognition received at the BioCircular Summit highlights the relevance of our research and development efforts in accelerating the deployment of sustainable bio-based solutions and strengthening the role of circular bioeconomy strategies in achieving climate and energy goals.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to BIOCIRC – Asociación Española de Biocircularidad for this meaningful recognition and for organizing such a high-level event that brings together key stakeholders committed to advancing biocircularity. Our special thanks go to Margarita de Gregorio and Paloma Pérez for their leadership and dedication in promoting collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation within the sector.
We also want to acknowledge the broader community of organizations, researchers, and professionals whose daily work is driving the development of a more sustainable bioeconomy. Collaboration across the value chain is essential to scaling solutions and generating real environmental and economic benefits.
Most importantly, this achievement belongs to the entire CENER Biomass Area team, whose expertise, passion, and continuous effort make this progress possible. Their commitment to excellence is the foundation of our success.
At CENER, we will continue working with enthusiasm and determination to transform research into real-world solutions, turning innovation into impact and contributing to a more sustainable future.
