Techno-economic analysis of torrefied straw pellets production as lignite substitution in heating plants
2024

PROJECT SCOPE & CENER ROLE
The general objective of this project is the assessment of the technical and economic feasibility of a torrefied straw pellets production and use as lignite substitution in heating plants. Including:
- Technical Solution: this task outlines the torrefied biomass production process, covering pretreatment, torrefaction, flue gas cleaning, washing, aditivation, and pelletization. It also compares different torrefaction technologies to assess efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Material and Process Specifications: This task defines input and output material specifications, including moisture, ash content, and key elemental properties. It also examines ash melting behavior, its impact on boiler performance, and ensures consistent product quality through process adjustments.
- Techno-Economic Analysis: This task assesses the financial feasibility of the process, including mass and energy balance, investment and operating costs, levelized biofuel cost, and risk analysis with countermeasures for potential challenges.
