Durability improvement of pellets produced from HTC BIOCHAR (Confidential Company)

2024

CENER ROLE

To optimize the pelletizing conditions to improve the durability of the pellets produced from HTC Biochar, aiming to increase it to values above 98% including:

  • Reception and unloading around 2t of biochar in CENER BIO2C facilities
  • Conduct pelletizing tests at the pilot plant with batches of biochar to define the best production conditions that optimize pellet quality and production capacity, aiming to achieve conditions that allow producing pellets with a durability exceeding 98%. To optimize the production capacity of the pellet press to meet a defined pellet quality specification (durability >98%), small batch tests (100-300 kg) are conducted, changing key parameters such as moisture content, die design, die rotation speed, and the use of a pelletization additive.
  • Pellet samples characterization
  • Tests results report including:
  • Operating parameters of the pellet press:
    • Particle size of the biochar
    • Moisture content of the biochar
    • Die design (compression ratio, hole distribution pattern, hole inlet configuration)
    • Die rotation speed
    • Use or non-use of additive
  • Productivity of the pellet press and specific energy consumption per ton produced.
  • Results of the characterization of the biochar pellets.
