Biomass fractionation technologies study

2024-2025

PROJECT SCOPE & CENER ROLE

To map the state of the art of biomass fractionation (deconstruction) technologies. The focus is on technologies that are used for treating lignocellulosic biomass (both herbaceous or woody biomass types) aiming at generating products which can be converted to fuels or chemicals (e.g. ethanol). The detailed scope of work of this study includes:

  • Defining and agreeing the different fractionation technologies to be considered.
  • Making a specific assessment of the different technologies including:
    • Brief description of the technology
    • Feedstocks for which it is demonstrated (or more suitable)
    • Products and by-products generated. Typical yields.
    • Maturity level (current TRL).
    • More relevant companies/technologists
    • Relevant references (at the higher scale installed: commercial, demo or pilot).
  • All this work will be compiled in a specific factsheet by technology.
